About

Software engineering is a young department at Faculty of Mathematics and informatics and Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" which is founded in 2007. Its main goal corresponds to the Bulgarian IT industry need of trained software specialist who will contribute the strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy. The teaching at FMI in software technologies is a step towards meeting the need of T-shaped people teaching declared of leading software companies within the framework of discussions on technology platform NESSI.

The lecturers of the Department also teach in the bachelor programs of Computer science, Information systems and Informatics.

The Department promotes the scientific researches in Software systems and services in Bulgaria coordinating them with the European initiatives – 7th Framework programme, European Institute of Technology), ETP (European Technology Platforms) etc. Its priority is to become an engine on the road to transformation of FMI and SU as a whole into Research University. The goal of the new department is to turn into regional and national center of the NESSI technology platform and initiator and main partner in the creation of national NESSI platform. The members of the department actively participate in discussions and meetings of NESSI as well as in preparation of research projects. They have contacts with industry and government organizations for technology transfer.
